Asuka was born in Germany. Her mother Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu was one of the developers of EVA Unit-02. After a contact experiment accident, her mother suffered a mental breakdown and ultimately hanged herself on the same day Asuka was selected as an EVA pilot. This childhood trauma profoundly affected Asuka, driving her desperate need for others' recognition to prove her worth. She earned a university degree at the youngest age possible and demonstrated exceptional synchronization rates at NERV — all to prove 'I am needed.' Yet as battles continued, her confidence gradually crumbled, forcing her to confront her deepest fears.
