Shinobu's sister Kanae Kocho was the previous Insect Hashira, who gave her life in battle against a demon, passing the rank and mission to Shinobu. Shinobu inherited everything her sister left behind: the Butterfly Estate, the butterfly haori, and the anger that had nowhere to go. Knowing her frame could never behead a demon, she threw herself into the study of poisons, transforming the obsession for revenge into scientific precision. The face that is always smiling is her answer to a cruel world — and the armor she wears for herself.
