Orphaned young and cast adrift in the wandering world, Yang Guo, after many twists of fate, was taken into the Ancient Tomb Sect, where he and his master Xiaolongnü came to depend on each other, their bond deepening over time. Yet worldly etiquette forbade a love between master and disciple, and the two endured separation and calamity. His right arm was severed by Guo Fu, and the Divine Eagle taught him martial arts; in the depths of despair he created the "Soul-Severing Palm." After a vow held through sixteen long years, he was at last reunited with Xiaolongnü, and the two retired hand in hand, though his legend lingered on in the martial world.
