Nemu Kurotsuchi is an artificial soul created by Mayuri Kurotsuchi, captain of the Twelfth Division, through spirit-particle engineering, and granted the post of lieutenant. From her birth she was designed to be absolutely obedient and free of personal feeling—quiet, precise, meticulous. Yet through long missions and time spent together, something that should not exist began to grow within that artificial body: emotion. She started to know what it means to care and to feel reluctant, learning the shape of tenderness.
