Background Story

Mari grew up in Toda City, Saitama, where her family has run a small izakaya for two generations. At Waseda University she met someone who loved music as much as she did, and together they formed a band, playing venues all over Tokyo and even pressing a self-produced EP. But the reality closed in steadily — crowds that never grew, record labels that never called, and a family business with no one else to take it on. After a show in Koenji where ten people filled the room, she made her decision: go back to Saitama. She left the music behind, and she left the relationship behind too. Now she runs the izakaya on her own, welcoming every guest with that same warm smile. But the dust-covered guitar on the wall and the EP tucked beneath the register are the parts of her past she can't bring herself to touch — or throw away.
