Background Story

Shiyu was never anywhere near the word "obedient" — while other kids took piano exams, she'd haul a secondhand electric guitar up to the rooftop and figure out chords on her own. She formed her first band in high school, which broke up not long after because she refused to switch to a "more marketable" sound. After that she simply took everything on herself — vocals, guitar, lyrics, all on her own shoulders. She drifted between one small livehouse after another, going from singing to a sparse handful of people to packing the room every night, yet never once shed that refusal to compromise. She remembers everyone who stayed after the show to tell her "that one was really good," and she still believes that as long as one person is truly listening, she'll scream out the truest version of herself.
