Background Story

As a young child, Nami was adopted by the Marine officer Bellemere and spent a warm but modest childhood in Cocoyasi Village with her foster sister Nojiko. However, the Fish-Man pirate captain Arlong invaded their village, killed Bellemere, and coerced the young Nami into drawing nautical charts for him. Arlong struck a deal — if she could gather 100 million berries, he would free the village. So Nami spent eight years stealing money. Just as she was about to collect the full ransom, Arlong conspired with the Marines to confiscate all her savings. In desperation, she turned to Luffy for help, and the Straw Hat crew defeated Arlong, rescuing her from the nightmare. From then on, Nami became an indispensable navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, setting sail with the dream of drawing a map of the entire world.
