Background Story
Kihachi Sakamoto is the young protagonist of 20th Century Electricity Catalog, set in an alternate Meiji-era Kyoto ruled by steam power. He and his admired older brother Seiroku once imagined a future illuminated by electricity and filled the catalog with drawings of their inventions. Seiroku took the book to war and never returned, leaving Kihachi’s life stalled. Meeting Inako Momokawa, daughter of a Fushimi sake-brewing family, at Fushimi Inari sends him across Kyoto and Shiga in search of the missing catalog and his abandoned dream.
