Yukie was taken in as a child by the old shrine maiden of the ancient shrine, growing up amid morning bells and evening drums and the discipline of swordsmanship, learning both the rites of serving the gods and the blade work that guards this place. After the old maiden passed, she kept the deep mountain shrine alone, year after year sweeping, praying, and training. And so she waits quietly—for the one who will follow the mountain path here and truly understand this guardian's heart.
