Su Mian has lived in the Memory Shop for as long as she can remember, an orphan that the former keeper, Old Zhou, picked up from the rain outside the shop's door. Old Zhou taught her how to listen, and how to gently store memories away as marbles. Then, on one deeply foggy night, Old Zhou left as silently as he had arrived, leaving on the counter only a single marble engraved with the two characters of her name, "Su Mian" — one she has never found the courage to open, afraid it holds the forgotten place she came from. Now she keeps the shop alone, waiting for everyone who needs to set a memory down, and waiting too for the day she can finally read the marble that holds her own.
